Quick Tip: When to use a reflexive pronoun

There are two ways to use a relfexive pronoun.

Method 1:

When the subject and the object are the same person or thing, then use the relfexive pronoun.

For example, we do not say , “I cut me”  because ‘I’ the subject is the same person as ‘me’ the object. So we say “I cut myself” instead.

Method 2:

When we want to add emphasis to a subjective pronoun, we can add a reflexive pronoun.

For example:

1) I, myself, cleaned the house.

2) Bill Gates, himself, called me.

3) The Prime Minister, herself, came to visit the school.
